Fire Weather Warning

Statement as of 10:48 AM PDT on July 04, 2015

Expires 4:00 PM EDT on July 05, 2015

... Red flag warning in effect from 5 PM this afternoon to 1 PM
PDT Sunday for wind and low humidity for northeastern mountains...

The National Weather Service in Spokane has issued a red flag
warning for wind and low humidity... which is in effect from 5 PM
this afternoon to 1 PM PDT Sunday.

* Affected area: fire weather zone 686 East Washington northeast
(zone 686).

* Timing: north winds will increase this afternoon but generally
remain below critical thresholds. Afternoon instability and low
humidities will be critical could enhance fire growth. The main
threat for winds will come with a dry cold front passage which
arrives 1800 - 2200 PDT then gusty winds continue into Sunday
morning. Very dry air behind the front will bring the potential
to keep humidities near critical thresholds until Sunday
morning. Better recoveries will be possible in Pend Oreille
County.

* Winds: Ridgetop winds: north 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 35
mph... becoming northeast after 0100 PDT. Valley winds 8 to 14
mph with sporadic gusts to 30 mph possible.

* Relative humidities: 11 to 18 percent in the valleys early in
the evening... recovering 25-40 percent Sunday morning. In the
mountains... 18 to 28 percent in the evening recovering 30 to 40
percent early Sunday morning.

* Impacts: rapid fire spread is possible with existing fires or
new fire starts in the area.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A red flag warning means that critical fire weather conditions
are either occurring now... or will shortly. A combination of
strong winds... low relative humidity... and warm temperatures will
create extreme fire growth potential.
