The National Weather Service in Rapid City has issued a

* Flood Warning for small streams in...
south Central Pennington County in west central South Dakota...
northeastern Custer County in southwestern South Dakota...

* until 1030 PM MDT Monday

* through 1030 am MDT... over 1.5 inches of rain have fallen over the
central Black Hills. Spring Creek below Sheridan Lake is
rising... with stream gauges showing Spring Creek near Rockerville
is approaching flood stage. Stream levels will continue to rise
through the day... and increase downstream to the Cheyenne river.

* Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Rockerville... and Folsom.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Runoff from heavy rain will cause flooding of small creeks and
streams... as well as country roads. Do not attempt to travel across
flooded roads... turn around... dont drown.

... A Flood Warning for small streams remains in effect until 845 PM
MDT Monday for south Central Pennington and northeastern Custer
counties...

At 1000 am MDT... the Keystone Fire Department reported grizzly Bear
Creek had flooded Grizzly Gulch Road southwest of Keystone. The
stream gauge indicated the stream is above flood stage of 5.0 feet
and continuing to rise as rain is falling at the rate of 0.10 to
0.30 inches an hour... with 1.50 inches of rain over the area since
Saturday evening.

Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Hermosa... Keystone... Hayward... Custer State Park... US Highway 16a
south of Keystone... and South Dakota highways 40 between Keystone
and Hermosa... Highway 36 west of Hermosa... and Highway 87 through
Custer State Park.

Flood waters are moving down Battle Creek between Hill City and
Keystone... grizzly Bear Creek upstream of Keystone... and Grace
Coolidge creek through Custer State Park.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Campers should leave campsites near creeks immediately.

... Flood Watch remains in effect through Monday afternoon...

The Flood Watch continues for

* portions of South Dakota and northeast Wyoming... including the
following areas... in South Dakota... central Black Hills...
Custer co plains... Fall River... Hermosa foot hills... northern
Black Hills... northern foot hills... Pennington co plains...
Rapid City... Shannon... southern Black Hills... southern foot
hills... southern Meade co plains and Sturgis/Piedmont foot
hills. In northeast Wyoming... southern Campbell and Wyoming
Black Hills.

* Through Monday afternoon

* storm total rainfall amounts of around one inch are expected at
many locations... especially today. Some areas along the eastern
slopes of the Black Hills... and over far southern Campbell
County in northeastern Wyoming... could receive up to 2 inches
of rain by Monday afternoon.

* Soils are saturated and creeks and streams in many locations
are still running high from the recent storms... especially along
the eastern slopes of the Black Hills and over southwestern
South Dakota. The additional rainfall may cause more flooding
for those areas.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flood Watch means that flooding is possible along rivers and
creeks in the watch area... but is not imminent. If you are in the
watch area... take time to move livestock... equipment... and other
property from low lying areas before flooding occurs. Monitor
NOAA Weather Radio and local media for updated forecasts and be
ready to quickly move to higher ground if rising water levels are
observed or a warning is issued.
