... Medford Oregon weather review: April 2016...

Despite April 2016 seeing several high temperature records, it is best
described as a Standard transitional month from the soggier winter months
toward the warmer and drier Summer pattern. The beginning of the month
started off with well above normal temperatures and a few weak systems
which brought light showers to the area. Then, winds turned offshore bringing
much warmer and drier air to Medford between the 6th and the 8th. Several record
high temperatures were broken across southern Oregon and northern California
during this time. In fact, both Medford and Roseburg also set the record for
the earliest 90 degree day which occurred on the 7th. Temperatures quickly
shifted back toward normal over the next few days as a strong cold front
progressed through. This cold front brought about a half an inch of rainfall
to the Medford Airport over a four day period between the 11th and the 14th.

Otherwise, the second half of April saw several swings between warm, dry days
and wet, cool days. It is Worth noting that high temperature records
were broken at the Medford Airport again on the 17th and the 18th including a
second 90 degree day as another thermal trough moved inland. Finally, after
several showery days to close out the month, a third thermal trough pattern
set up on the 30th to close out April with one last mild and dry day.

The average temperature for April was 58.3 degrees, which is 5.5
degrees above normal. The average maximum temperature was 72.1 degrees,
which is 7.2 degree above normal. The average minimum temperature was
44.4 degrees, which is 3.6 degrees above normal. The highest temperature for
the month was 91 degrees on the 7th and 18th. The lowest temperature of the
month was 34 on the 26th.

There were 16 clear days, 9 partly cloudy days, and 5 cloudy days.

Total precipitation for the month was 0.96 inches, which is 0.42 inches
below normal. The greatest 24 hour total was 0.37 inches that fell from
the 13th through the 14th. The water year (beginning October 1st)
stands at 18.42 inches which is 3.25 inches above normal. Calendar year
precipitation is now 8.66 inches which is 1.13 inches above normal.

The average wind for the month was 4.4 mph. The fastest recorded two-
minute wind was 35 mph from the southwest on the 13th. The peak wind
was 47 mph from the southwest, also on the 13th.

The highest pressure for the month was 30.56 inches on the 5th. The
lowest pressure for the month was 29.57 inches on the 22nd.
