... Heat advisory now in effect until 9 PM PDT Saturday for the
Cascade foothills and the central Oregon Coast Range...

The heat advisory is now in effect until 9 PM PDT Saturday.

* Timing: through Saturday evening.

* High temperatures: 90 to 95 degrees.

* Low temperatures: 55 to 65 degrees.

* Duration: Saturday should be the last very hot day. Temperatures
will gradually cool each day with daytime temperatures below 90
degrees by Tuesday.

* Locations include: Sandy... Estacada... Sweet Home... Cottage
Grove... Veneta

* impacts: do not leave children and pets unattended in
automobiles.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside. When
possible... reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or
evening. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat
stroke. Wear light weight and loose fitting clothing when
possible and drink plenty of water.

To reduce risk during outdoor work the occupational safety and
health administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks
in shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by
heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke
is an emergency... call 9 1 1.

evening for hot... dry... unstable conditions combined with
critically dry fuels for Oregon fire weather zones 602... 603...
604... 605... 606... 607... 608... and Washington fire weather zones
602... 604 and 660...

* affected zones... in Oregon... fire weather zones 602... 603...
604... 605... 606... 607 and 608. In Washington... fire weather
zones 602... 604 and 660.

* Affected areas... this includes the Gifford Pinchot National
Forest... Mt Hood National Forest west of the Cascade crest...
the Willamette National Forest... portions of the Siuslaw
National Forest... the Willamette Valley and adjacent
foothills... as well as the Clark County lowlands. Odf... blm...
and Washington dnr lands are included as well.

* Timing... through late this evening.

* Stability... mid and high level Haines 5 to 6 at times. Very
unstable conditions could promote column growth to 10 to 12
thousand feet msl or greater under intense burning conditions.

* Relative humidity... minimum humidity values 10 to 20 percent.
Humidity generally 35 percent or less late this evening.

* Temperatures... high temperatures generally 90 to 100 in The
Lowlands and mid to upper 80s near the Oregon Cascade passes and
higher elevations in the South Washington Cascades.

* Wind... gusty afternoon and evening wind this afternoon through
late this evening. Sustained north to northwest wind 8 to 14 mph
with gusts to 25 mph expected for exposed areas.

* Impacts... the combination of an increasingly hot... dry... and
unstable environment... gusty winds... and very dry fuels may
result in rapid growth of new or existing fires.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A red flag warning means that critical fire weather conditions
are either occurring now... or will shortly. A combination of the
above conditions can contribute to extreme fire behavior.

... Record warmest July records set at Salem and Eugene...

In July Salem recorded its warmest month on record with an average
temperature of 73.1 degrees. The previous record was 72.5 degrees
set twice in 2014... in July and August.

Eugene set a record for the warmest July on record with an average
temperature of 71.5 degrees. The previous record for July was 71.0
degrees set in 1958.

With six days in July of 100 degrees or more... Eugene also set a
record for the most days in year with a temperature of 100 degrees
or more. The previous record was five days set in 1978.

Temperature records at Salem date back to 1893... and records at
Eugene date back to 1912.
