... NWS damage survey for 03/25/15 tornado event - update 2...

.Update... Tulsa tornado added based on damage survey today... other
areas also investigated today

.Overview... NWS Tulsa meteorologists assessed damage for the third
day following wednesday's deadly tornado event. The first area
investigated was north of the NWS office where we received at least
six separate reports of a weak tornado crossing I-244... north of
the NWS office. These reports were from storm chasers and spotters.
The ground survey confirmed a tornado in that area and details for
that tornado are noted below.

We also investigated an area of West Tulsa where both Doppler
radar data from the WSR-88D in Inola and the tdwr in Broken Arrow
suggested another brief tornado was possible. This area was just
east of a strong rear flank downdraft surge... similar to the other
confirmed tornadoes in this event. We found some wind damage to
the Industrial area between Admiral Blvd and Charles Page Blvd to
the west of S 25th west Ave but could not conclude it was from a
tornado.

The survey team then went to investigate an area north of Mannford
where both Doppler radars in Inola and Broken Arrow as well as
storm chasers suggested the supercell went through it's initial
pretornadic cycle. The team found no damage in the area in which the
circulation moved. We interviewed ranchers in that path who were
home at the time and they indicated that there was no tornado in
that area despite the rotating wall cloud and funnel moving
directly over their property. Their description was exactly what
one would expect of a pretornadic supercell evolution during a
failed attempt to produce a tornado. Based on the ground survey
and their interview... the team concluded that despite a well-
organized mesocyclone and photographic evidence of a tapered
funnel that it most likely didn't reach the ground.

The supercell cycled again over the next 10 minutes and that
process resulted in the Sand Springs tornado forming. We have
received information that suggests the tornado may have actually
formed over Keystone Lake to the northwest of Appalachia Bay
Recreation Area. Further investigation may result in US adjusting
the beginning Point of that tornado.

Other areas still under investigation include tornado reports
southwest of Siloam Springs and west of Watts... another area from
Inola to near Peggs where a couple brief tornadoes may have
occurred... and reports of a tornado near Berryville Arkansas.
There was a confirmed tornado videotaped from the kotv helicopter
over Lake Gibson... for which we are trying to determine the exact
location.

We appreciate all the information we have received to date to help
US sort this event out and urge people with additinal information
to contact US. Photos and video are always appreciated!

crossed the river again as it headed toward Sand Springs where it
dissipated just before Highway 97. Numerous trees were snapped and
uprooted along the path and many power poles were snapped.

The survey team also assessed extensive wind damage further to the
east on Charles Page Blvd. A broad area of wind damage generally
from the north to south caused shingle damage and minor structural
damage to many homes... uprooted numerous trees... and damaged
businesses. The north facing wall of a gymnastics facility had the
north facing wall collapse inward... resulting in the roof
