Special Statement

Statement as of 1:31 PM PST on December 09, 2016

Expires 10:15 AM EST on December 11, 2016

... Special Weather Statement...

A potent winter storm will affect most of Humboldt County from
Friday afternoon through Sunday morning. This storm has a variety
of weather with it.

For elevations above 6000 feet in western Humboldt County, expect
snow totals through Sunday morning of between 7 and 12 inches.
This mostly affect back County, higher mountains, and other areas
where roads to not reach. Campers, hunters, other recreation
people need to be aware of the danger.

For elevations between about 5000 and 6000 feet and other higher
areas in the northern County, expect snow totals from a couple
inches to as much as 7 inches. The heaviest snows will not affect
paved roads. Again, people doing recreation or back country work
need to be aware of the changing weather.

For elevations below about 5000 feet and in the western part of
the County, look for either a mix of rain and snow, or wet snow
with minor accumulations. However, much of this area is already
wet and many gravel or unimproved roads are going to become a
quagmire. It it going to be easy to get stuck.

Sunday morning's low temperatures will drop to the lower to mid
20s in the valleys, and all that wetness is going to freeze,
making travel even on paved highways a potential mess.
