... Wind Advisory in effect until 5 PM MST this afternoon...

The National Weather Service in Albuquerque has issued a Wind
Advisory... which is in effect until 5 PM MST this afternoon.

* Location... Central Highlands... south central mountains and
portions of the east central and southeast plains.

* Winds... west/northwest 30 to 35 mph with gusts 45 to 55 mph
favoring the Clines Corners area.

* Timing... developing near Clines Corners early and strengthening
across the plains during the morning to early afternoon hours.
Peak speeds during the mid afternoon hours.

* Visibility... little impact expected although localized blowing
dust possible across recently plowed ag fields and construction
sites.

* Local impacts... Crosswinds will develop along north to south
orientated highways. This includes impact to State Highway
54... 285... 84 and 54.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Motorists should exercise caution while travelling. Sudden gusts
of wind may cause you to lose control of your vehicle. Extra
attention should be given to cross winds.

... A series of storm systems to bring strong winds... accumulating
mountain snow and colder temperatures to northern and central New
Mexico tonight through Saturday night...

New Mexico will be under an unsettled weather pattern for the rest
of this week through the middle of next week. A series of storm
systems are forecast to bring mountain snow and valley rain and
snow to the west and central tonight through Saturday night. The
eastern plains and Central Highlands as well as the exposed
higher terrain can expect bouts of strong and gusty winds today
through Saturday night. Highs will cool Friday west and central
but moreso Saturday, starting the weekend with temperatures 5 to
15 degrees below average.

Although snow is expected to occur off and on through Saturday
night over the western and central higher terrain, locales along
and west of the Continental Divide are predicted to pick up the
most snow by early Sunday. A foot or more is possible at
elevations above 8000 feet in the chuska and northwest mountains.
Occasional westerly wind gusts to around 50 or 55 mph are possible
over the exposed higher terrain and eastern plains as surface low
pressure develops and intensifies over Texas and Oklahoma.

A brief break in the busy weather is expected Sunday... then
another storm system looks to arrive next Monday. Wind will again
plague the east Monday through Tuesday while the west and central
may pick up more snow. Much colder and considerably below average
temperatures will overspread the region.
