Flash Flood Watch

Statement as of 3:54 AM CDT on August 27, 2014

Expires 11:00 AM EDT on August 27, 2014

... Flash Flood Watch remains in effect until 10 am CDT this
morning...

The Flash Flood Watch continues for

* portions of southwest Iowa and Nebraska... including the
following areas... in southwest Iowa... Harrison... Pottawattamie
and Shelby. In Nebraska... Butler... Colfax... Dodge... Douglas...
Platte... Sarpy... Saunders... Seward and Washington.

* Until 10 am CDT this morning

* thunderstorms in south central Nebraska are expected to expand
northeast into eastern Nebraska and west central Iowa this
morning. High amounts of moisture in the atmosphere and the slow
movement of storms suggest locally heavy rainfall will be
possible. This combined with already saturated soils from rains
on Tuesday could lead to flash flooding this morning.

* General rainfall amounts of 1 to 2 inches are possible through
mid morning... with locally higher amounts possible.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions are favorable for the
development of flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous
situation.

Monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action should
flash flood warnings be issued.
