... A Flood Warning remains in effect until 1100 am EDT for the
District of Columbia... northwestern Prince Georges... south central
Carroll... Howard... Montgomery and northwestern Anne Arundel
counties...

At 734 am EDT... Doppler radar indicated slow moving thunderstorms
with very heavy rainfall moving back into portions of Prince
Georges... Anne Arundel... and eastern Howard counties. Up to two
inches of rain have already fallen. Additional rainfall amounts of
two inches are possible. Flood stage will be approached on Rock
Creek in Washington DC later this morning... which could impact
commuters.

Arlington... Alexandria... Columbia... Germantown... Rockville...
Bethesda... Gaithersburg... Bowie... Severn... Olney... College Park...
Fort Washington... Greenbelt... Langley Park... Beltsville... Elkridge...

Prince Georges County in central Maryland...
northwestern St. Marys County in southern Maryland...
western Calvert County in southern Maryland...
central Anne Arundel County in central Maryland...

* until 115 PM EDT

* at 718 am EDT... Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing
heavy rain which will cause flooding. Up to one inch of rain has
already fallen. An additional two to three inches is likely as
repeated storms move over the same area.

* Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Waldorf... Bowie... Severn... Clinton... Crofton... Forestville...
largo... Leonardtown... Prince Frederick... Upper Marlboro... Hallowing
Point... Andrews Air Force Base... Wicomico river... Sheridan Point...

* tidal anomaly... around a foot and a half above astronomical
normals.

* Timing... for several hours around high tide today. Coastal
flooding may intensify each day into the weekend.

* Expected impacts... minor inundation of low lying shoreline.

* Into Friday morning

* a powerful low pressure system over the Midwest will bring
periods of heavy rain to our area into Friday morning.

* Widespread rainfall amounts of 4 to 8 inches are expected.
Localized amounts up to a foot of rain are possible...
including along the eastern slopes of the northern Virginia
Blue Ridge and Catoctin Mountain in Maryland.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

These next few days will be a dangerous time... requiring more
than the usual awareness... planning and preparations.

If you are near streams or drainage ditches... keep an eye on them
and be ready to quickly seek higher ground. Water may rise
rapidly.

Clear out storm drains.

Those prone to basement flooding should prepare. Communities
prone to flooding should prepare.

Continue to check in on the forecast for updates.

Warnings will be issued for areas where flooding is imminent.
Ensure you get warnings from the National Weather Service through
your Mobile phone and or NOAA Weather Radio.

Be prepared to take action if a warning is issued for where you
are or if flooding is observed.

Ensure your kids dont play near flood waters.

Remember if you come across water crossing a Road... turn around
dont drown!
