Special Statement

Statement as of 2:14 PM MST on December 06, 2016

Expires 7:00 AM EST on December 07, 2016

... Potential for significant mountain snow Thursday night through
Saturday...

Beginning later Thursday and continuing through Saturday, a
series of storms will pull quite a bit of Pacific moisture into
eastern Idaho. Although there isn't high at the moment on the
exact timing for heavier periods of snowfall, it does appear that
areas above 5500 feet should see several inches of snow. Areas
above 7000 feet could easily see amounts above 12 inches. Add to
that stronger winds, meaning the potential for blowing and
drifting exists for higher passes and the backcountry. Below 5500
feet, snowfall will be lighter and in some cases we may even see a
mix or changeover to rain. Any threat of freezing rain or drizzle
would be localized to more sheltered valleys and not last for very
long. If you are travelling in the mountains or have plans to be
in the backcountry, please pay attention to later forecasts and
any statements issued by the National Weather Service or local
media outlets.
