Areal Flood Advisory, Areal Flood Watch

The National Weather Service in Pocatello has extended the

* flood advisory for...
snowmelt in...
central Blaine County in central Idaho...

* until 215 PM MDT Saturday

* at 153 PM MDT, emergency management and trained spotters reported
minor flooding continues in the vicinity of Carey and Picabo.
Water continues to flow across several roads in and around Carey.
Minor flooding is also affecting several basements. Ditches,
streams, and creeks across the advisory area remain near or above
bankfull. With precipitation in the forecast and snowmelt and
runoff continuing, flooding along creeks and streams and across
fields and low lying areas is expected to continue.

* Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Carey, Picabo and Gannett.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

Keep children away from storm drains, culverts, creeks and streams.
Water levels can rise rapidly and sweep children away.

Please report flooding to your local law enforcement agency when you
can do so safely.

A flood advisory means river or stream flows are elevated, or ponding
of water in urban or other areas is occurring or is imminent.

... Flood Watch now in effect through Saturday afternoon...

The Flood Watch is now in effect for

* portions of central Idaho, eastern Idaho, south central Idaho,
and southeast Idaho, including the following areas, in central
Idaho, big and little Wood River region, Lost
River/pahsimeroi, and Sawtooth Mountains. In eastern Idaho,
upper snake Highlands. In south central Idaho, eastern Magic
Valley. In southeast Idaho, Cache Valley/Idaho portion,
Caribou Highlands, south Central Highlands, and Wasatch
mountains/Idaho portion.

* Through Saturday afternoon

* excessive snowmelt along with rain, mainly below 7000 feet.

* Warm temperatures and periods of lower elevation rain will
enhance snowmelt across the region resulting in areas of low
land flooding. Water over roads and flooding near homes is
possible. Areas near creeks and streams may be especially
vulnerable to runoff flooding. Periods of rain below 6500 feet
is expected tonight through Saturday morning as well as Sunday
night and Monday which will exacerbate runoff issues in the
lower elevations.


Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flood Watch means there is a potential for flooding based on
current forecasts.

You should monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible
flood warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be
prepared to take action should flooding develop.
