Areal Flood Warning

Statement as of 5:10 PM EDT on September 23, 2014

Expires 7:00 PM EDT on September 23, 2014

The National Weather Service in Melbourne has issued a

* Flood Warning for...
east central Volusia County in Florida...
this includes the city of New Smyrna Beach...

* until 700 PM EDT.

* At 507 PM EDT... National Weather Service Doppler radar indicated
two to three inches of rain had fallen near New Smyrna Beach and
Spruce Creek during the late afternoon. Slow moving showers and
thunderstorms will produce an additional 1 to 2 inches of rain
across areas that have already received very heavy rainfall. Total
rainfall accumulations may reach 3 to 5 inches in these areas.

* Areas from New Smyrna Beach to Spruce Creek will have flooded
roadways and flooding of low-lying and poor drainage areas into
early evening from heavy rainfall.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Flooding of roads... streets and intersections are likely to become
widespread in these locations. Some homes and businesses may be
subject to low lying and poor drainage flooding.

Do not drive your vehicle into areas where the water covers the
roadway. The water depth may be too great to allow your car to cross
safely. Only two feet of water can make most vehicles buoyant. Turn
around... dont drown!
