... Excessive heat warning remains in effect until 8 PM PDT /8 PM
MST/ this evening...

* temperature... highs 110 to 115 in the Las Vegas Valley and the
Mojave Desert... 115 to 120 in the Colorado River valley and near
125 for Death Valley are expected.

* Impacts... an excessive heat warning means that a prolonged
period of dangerously hot temperatures will occur. Heat
related illnesses such as heat exhaustion and heat stroke will
be likely. People most vulnerable include those who are
spending lots of time outdoors... those who do not have air
conditioning... Young children... the elderly... and those with
chronic ailments.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Drink plenty of liquids... stay in an air-conditioned room... stay
out of the sun... and check up on relatives and neighbors. If you
plan to be outside... avoid prolonged exposure or strenuous
physical activity and take frequent breaks in the shade.
Alcoholic and caffeinated beverages should be avoided. Wear light
weight... light colored... loose fitting clothing. Young children
and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any
circumstances.

The high temperature at McCarran International Airport peaked out at
115 degrees today. That broke the previous record of 114 degrees
last set in 1995.

This mornings low of 91 degrees at McCarran International Airport
broke the old record of 90 degrees set in 2009 for the warmest low
temperature.

Records for Las Vegas date back to 1937.

... Needles CA...

The high temperature at Needles reached 119 degrees today. That tied
the previous record of 119 degrees last set in 1995.

This mornings low of 95 degrees broke the the old record of 94
degrees set in 2005 for the warmest low temperature.

Records for Needles date back to 1888.

... Bishop CA...

The high temperature at Bishop reached 108 degrees today. That
broke the previous record of 105 degrees set in 1994.

Records for Bishop data back to 1943.

... Barstow-Daggett CA...

This mornings low of 83 degrees broke the old record of 82 degrees
set in 1980 for the warmest low temperature.

Records for Barstow-Daggett date back to 1943.

... Kingman AZ...

The high temperature at Kingman reached 108 degrees today. That
broke the previous record of 107 degrees set in 1972.

Records for Kingman date back to 1901.

... Death Valley CA...

The high temperature at Death Valley reached 126 degrees today. That
tied the previous record of 126 degrees set in 1995.

Records for Death Valley date back to 1911.
